It Is Not Sinful To Consult Doctors For Healing - Chairman

The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, has encouraged Christians who are not feeling well to seek medical care, since it is not sinful to resort to orthodox medicine.

He said although the Church believes in divine healing, it also believes that God has endowed medical practitioners with the ability and knowledge to cure diseases.

Speaking at the just-ended 2018 Teshie-Nungua Area Apostolisation at the Pentecost Convention Centre (PCC) on Divine Healing, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah mentioned an incident when the Founder of the Church, Pastor James McKeown, nearly died of malaria but recovered after he was sent to the hospital.

“Look at the legacy he has left behind and the work he did which was nearly curtailed by malaria,” he said, adding, “This tells us that so long as we are in the world and we are bitten by mosquitoes, we could get malaria and fall sick.”

He further explained that many situations in life can lead to sickness. “Even thinking too much can lead sicknesses. If you fall sick and go for medication don’t think it amounts to faithlessness,” he pointed out.

Throwing light on the gifts of healing, the Chairman explained that God will heal those He wants to heal as healing remains the sovereign act of God, saying, “Healing is not with an individual, it is with Christ.”

He said that what God is looking for is for Christians to have absolute faith in Him and stay under His feet.

Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah quoted several texts from the Bible including Deuteronomy 7:1-16; Isaiah 35:4-6; 42:6-9 and explained that the requirements for divine healing include total obedience to God, the fear of God and humility.

According to him, God has arranged the world to be in order of His will, “as Christ tarries diseases will be in the world, but let your faith be like Daniel and his friends; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego; that is if it doesn’t happen, you will not bow to the devil.”

The Chairman gave a chronicle of healings in the Old Testament involving Naaman who had leprosy, the Shunammite woman, Ezekiel who had 15 years added to his age, Elisha who fell sick and died, Isaac who was blind and was not healed, Rachael, Sarah and Hannah who all suffered from barrenness, and said in some instances, the people were healed while others did not get healed.

He also spoke extensively on healing in the New Testament and said while Jesus healed many sick people, he only healed one person by the pool of Bethsaida, recorded in John chapter 5.

He said although Timothy followed Paul, he suffered stomach ache and Paul recommended medication. As such, it is possible for Christians to live with sicknesses that no amount of days of fasting can cure, he indicated.

“People think if you fast God will answer you instantly; but it not always the case. The fasting is to bring humility to the human body so the spirit of God can work,” he revealed.

The Area Head, Prophet James Osei Amaniampong, expressed his profound appreciation to the Chairman for sharing the message.
